3: His First Company Was Zip2

This was Musk’s break into the internet industry. He co-founded Zip2 along with his brother Kimbal and a friend, Gregory Kouri. After dropping out from Stanford, Musk borrowed $28,000 from his father to start this new venture. This was the internet’s version of yellow pages (phone numbers and maps included). Zip2 was then sold to a bigger company for $307 million and Musk made $22 million from this transaction.

4: Then, PayPal was Born

Musk decided to invest $10 of his proceeds from Zip2 into a new venture called X.com. It was his first attempt at online banking. The company was merged with Confinity by Peter Thiel and the business was rebranded into PayPal in 2001. Musk served as the CEO of the company but was shortly fired while he was on his honeymoon. He continued to invest in PayPal until the company was sold to eBay from which Musk made $180 million.

5: The Era of SpaceX Began

This genius entrepreneur diverted his interest to space exploration even before PayPal’s sale was finalized. Eventually, Musk became the face of Tesla by becoming the principal product architect as a result of his vision to manufacture electric cars and pave the path for a more sustainable future.
