I love flowers, and I know that they are the perfect gift for Valentines Day. Flowers can add a touch of romance to any day, but they are especially nice on Valentine’s Day. If you’re looking for some help with your flower selection this year, then this is the article for you! We will go over the different types of flowers and their meanings so that you can find the perfect one. I’ll also show some beautiful arrangements to give you inspiration as well. So get ready because we have lots of pictures coming up!
What kind of Flowers for Valentines do you like the most? Roses are a classic choice, but I think tulips or hydrangeas can be really stunning as well! Which type would you like to see an example of?
A bouquet that is quite unique and different from anything else in this article. It’s made up entirely of calla lilies with dark green leaves on top for contrast. This arrangement has some height which makes it stand out even more against the white background (or lack thereof). The colors pop so much if they are put together in just the right way. Calla Lilies symbolize “love at first sight.” Isn’t that romantic!?
Choosing your flower will depend on what you’re doing with them. If you want your flowers to last a long time, perhaps for years or decades, we recommend roses since they have some of the strongest stems and petals in comparison to other flower types.
Alternatively, if you are looking for something more casual that will not be handled as much then tulips would be perfect! They are small and delicate so it’s okay when they break. Plus there is such an array of colors available; I always love getting these because there really is something out there for everyone
Don’t forget about hydrangeas too! These can make beautiful bouquets but also create a great statement on their own when used alone. Since they lack water retention (which is great for flowers because they won’t stay wet too long), you can pick a bouquet up the day before and it will be perfect on Valentines Day!
Keep in mind that no matter what flower you choose, make sure to have the stems cut at an angle so water has an easier time reaching them. For instance, tulip petals are very large so I recommend cutting just below where the stem connects with the first layer of petal (or closer). This way there is plenty of room for water to get down into each level. Roses also work well when cut this way since their leaves act like sponges to hold excess moisture.
If your vase doesn’t come with drainage holes, take a nail and poke three or four holes in the bottom of it. This will ensure your flowers don’t sit in water for more than an hour before needing to be watered again.
Roses are also one of my favorites because they last so long! I recommend adding some raspberry extract (or other fruit extracts) to the vase with water and then cut off about ½ inch from each stem when you put them into the vase. They’ll release their fragrance naturally as they soak up the moisture through their stems instead of going straight to blooming which is perfect if you want something that lasts all week like me!
Wanting a little extra color? Add pieces of apple skin directly into the vase. To get the most color, cut off a piece of skin and drop it into the water as close to the base of your flowers as possible!
Of course I couldn’t forget about tulips! Tulips are one of my favorite flowers because they’re so bright and cheerful – but be sure you pick up some food coloring for this project too! When you add enough red dye to make them pink or yellow, they will last much longer without needing additional care from you. If that’s not your style, just dump in some blue dye instead for a more natural look 😉
I hope this article has given you some ideas for your Valentines Day gift. There are so many options out there, and it can be hard to know which one is the right choice. If you’re still not sure, then don’t worry because we have lots of other articles on flowers that will help give you more choices! One last thing before we go- did I mention how pretty these arrangements are?
